“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover.”
For quite some time now I have been toying with the idea of adding a section on travel, but somehow never got around to it. Travel has always been my passion but travel writing is another ballgame altogether. It was my 25th wedding anniversary recently and my wife and I decided that instead of our usual routine of celebrating anniversaries at home or dining out with family, we needed to do something special. Something different. After all, a silver anniversary is a special occasion.
And so, we decided that we would take a holiday abroad. Just the two of us, away from home, away from routines, just being tourists and exploring. And that is exactly what we did. We took an 8-day vacation trip to Hong Kong, Shenzhen & Macau. Although I had in the past travelled to these destinations for work, I never really had an opportunity to explore them in depth, and I promised myself that this trip was going to be different. And different it was. For these 8 days we did nothing but alternate between relaxing and exploring. We also took loads of pictures. In fact we went crazy clicking, with my wife using her camera and me using the camera in my phone, and between us we managed to click almost 1200 photographs – an average of 150 per day ! Some might say that 8 days is hardly worth considering as a vacation, but then, what the heck. Any break from the mundane is welcome 🙂
And it was during this trip that I made the decision to add this section for travel and I promised myself that I would have a go at it on the very first opportunity. So here I am,typing away, announcing the launch of the travel section. Not only am I going to share my travel experiences here, I am also going to invite you, the reader, to contribute your travel experiences for the benefit of others. If you would like to publish your travel article, please email it to me on firstname.lastname@example.org.
